Project 6 - Shoot

Today, I did a shoot on the subject of makeup. The makeup took about an hour and a half to do so that wasted a bit of time and gave me less time to actually photograph it. So I didn't plan my time right, and we had a limited time to work in the studio so I should have planned the shoot a bit better. Overall the shoot turned out good, the pictures turned out how I wanted them to.

However, I have changed my whole idea for this project. I have decided to base this project on hair. I think most of my shoots will be in the studio because you get a better outcome. The reason I have changed my idea is because I took this picture, I started editing it and I thought that the hair looked better than the makeup did in this image, and I think hair would be easier to work with because there is a lot less things involved to shoot. I can involve a lot of subjects in with hair, like fashion/hairstyles through the decades. I think this image is very eye-catching because you can only see one side of the models face and she's using a direct gaze which attracts the audience more and there is a bright colour involved.

The camera I used for this image was a Nikon D90, the shutter speed was on 1/125 of a second, I had the ISO on the lowest it could go to was 200 and it was a 34mm lens, 18-50.

The lighting for this shoot took a while to get right to the way I wanted it because we spent too long prepping for it.

This is one of the images I edited from the shoot I did in the studio. I made it black and white because I wanted to see how it worked without colour, I think it worked well because it cancels out the harsh colour. I also airbrushed this image as you can see around the centre part of the models face looks more smooth than the rest of the picture. I have sharpened the eyes to make them stand out more and I have sharpened the hair as well to make it more visible. I have gotten rid of the stray hairs around her head to make her hair look more sleek using the clamp tool on Photoshop. I think having this photo in black and white makes it look more interesting because it gives the photo a sense of darkness, but then that contrasts with the expression on the models face. I should have made the image a little bit brighter because the light on the models face would have stood out more and it would have looked more professional. The shutter speed for this image was on 1/125 of a second and the ISO was on 250, if I had gone any lower the image would have been really under exposed and you would be able to see any of the details.
